Former Orange County commissioner and eight-term state legislator Fred Brummer, a political figure who cared little about what people thought of him, died Monday after a brief illness. He was 77. His death was reported on Facebook by Orange County commissioner Christine Moore, who previously served as Brummer's campaign manager and who now holds the District 2 seat Brummer filled from 2006 to 2014. Moore said Brummer 'was like a dad to me,' crediting him with encouraging her to run for office.
