A subsidiary of Altamonte Springs-based developer Wendover Housing Partners LLC can bring a subsidized workforce housing community to the $100 million Apopka City Center development despite the city government's objections, Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida Senior Judge Emerson R. Thompson Jr. ruled Nov. 28. Why this story matters: The ruling may clear the way for the construction of nearly 200 workforce apartments in Apopka. Affordable homes are a big need in the region because among metro Orlando's population that earns 50% or less of the area's median income, there is an existing 78,225-unit shortage of affordable housing, the National Low Income Housing Coalition reported.
